Now that the Wild Swim collection is out in the world, I’m sharing the individual paintings from it in a blog series, with a little bit of commentary about each one. If you’ve had your eye on one, this is a chance to get to know it better!

This week: The Sea, Breathing Quietly

The Sea, Breathing Quietly, as it could look framed and hanging on the wall

This was beautiful and fluid to create, partly because of its size {38 x 24 in}, and partly because I was really able to collaborate with the wood, which had so much of the sea in it already.

The natural markings on the panel lend themselves perfectly to the way the surface of the water can look when the light reflects off it, and it was a joy to work with the wood to bring them out.

Then the seaweed fronds found their places effortlessly, drawing the eye in a sinuous movement up and across the painting. Just like swimming.
