Blue Dissolve
I called the collection Revelations because I spent a lot of the winter walking the tideline, which got me thinking about what's revealed when the tide goes out, both literally and metaphorically.
Shell fragments, strands of seaweed, and ripples in the sand all reminded me of how how memory works, in bits and pieces that are revealed and fade away at different times. And while I was walking I'd also be in the memories of being immersed, so the experiences would overlap inside me.
So much has gone into these paintings - memories, sensory experiences, squinting into the sun across the ‘lone and level sands’, enjoying the patterns the waves leave behind, the way light plays in shallow water, walking in the clouds reflected in the wet sand, and remembering what it's like to be part of all that as well as the observer.
This painting carries the feeling of weather coming in across wide flat sands strewn with seaweed fragments, in an understated, almost monochrome way. I think it'd look beautiful in a bathroom {as long as there wasn't too much steam!} or anywhere you'd like to create a peaceful moment in your home.
